Home health care is typically covered by Medicare/Medicaid, long-term insurance, or funded by the patients themselves. In the majority of situations, traditional Medicare covers the entire expense of home healthcare services.

What Is Personal Care Services?

Personal Care Services, provided as a Medicaid benefit, assists individuals with their routine activities.

These routine activities include both activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs).

Examples of ADLs:

  • Bathing
  • Eating
  • Assisting with toileting
  • Dressing
  • Assisting with walking

Examples of IADLs:

  • Laundry
  • Light housework
  • Meal preparation

To qualify for Personal Care Services (PCS), the requirements are as follows:

  • Must be from birth to 20 years old and a Medicaid recipient
  • Possess a confirmed ongoing disability or a physical or mental condition
  • Verified by a medical doctor or health care practitioner
  • Determined by the Personal Care Assessment Form.
  • Require assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs)
  • Obtain a signed Practitioner Statement of Need from a physician, advanced practice nurse, or physician assistant
